Louise and Ludvik Schiff


...someone saw a hand....
...was trapped below...

Ludvik Schiff, a machine hand at the Western Electric Company, and his sister Louise boarded the Eastland on their way to the picnic.  When the Eastland rolled over into the Chicago River, Ludvik was trapped below and could not get out.  Louise, who was clutching a box camera in her hand, was saved when someone saw a hand clutching to this item and pulled her out.
