Martha Quwas had worked for the Western Electric Company for three years. She invited her fiancee, Frank Sagenbrecht, to the picnic. Both Frank and Martha perished in the tragedy. Martha left her widowed mother and four brothers and sisters - Gertrude, William, Walker, and Theresa. Her brother William was very sick at the hospital, awaiting an operation, and Martha (and her sister Gertrude, who worked at the Chicago Telephone company) were the sole support of the family.
